The king of Bohemian castles is located 17 km northeast of Písek at the confluence of the rivers Otava and Vltava. Zvíkov is one of the foremost buildings of medieval secular architecture. During the construction of Karlštejn Castle, Zvíkov was home of the Czech crown jewels. The castle complex, apart from the paid guided tours, is freely accessible all year round and offers many beautiful views on the confluence of the rivers Vltava and Otava. In summer, outdoor theatre performances are held every weekend during the Zvíkov Summer Theatre festival. A cruise liner operates below the Castle.
