A small town on the river Lomnice, it is the birthplace of the famous Czech painter Mikoláš Aleš. His home has been turned into a small museum. It also features an exhibition of the father of Czech puppetry Matěj Kopecký. Czech puppetry was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2017. Mirotice is located 20  km north of Písek, and it is the gateway to the northern part of the Písek region – a beautiful, slightly curving landscape ideal for long trips on foot or by bike.
